Will Apple Watch series 4 use the same charger as previous Apple watches?

That’s exactly what happened to me with the original series charger. Since I changed to the charger that came with the series 4 (my previous post) it’s charged perfectly every time. I had only used the original charger because I had it in a stand and was lazy and didn’t want to mess with it. I was also told by the sales person it would work fine. So even though the part number remains the same, it seems older chargers may not always work. This is just my findings, your mileage may differ.

I can confirm there is some slightly difference between the cables. I have been using the Apple Watch Edition cable since my first watch, series 2, 3 , but now, with Apple Watch 4 it seems there is some kind of inconsistency and incompatibility. It is very common the charge stops without reason. In the beginning I thought it was badly placed, but now I'm sure is the case. I noticed a message at the watch screen saying my cable was not proper for the watch. I called Apple Brazil they told me to buy another cable.

The series 4 charger seems to be slightly different than the series 3 chargers. They both charge but the dished recess on the old chargers doesn’t match the new watch profiles. Can anyone confirm?

Probably a manufacturing variance, all the same Apple part.

No, the back of the watch is slightly more convex and the charger slightly more concave to make up for it. Works great.

I think you're right... It looks the same but my series four spins more freely in the old charger. It keeps calling upside down and I'm nervous it won't stick.

I just purchased a series 4 as a replacement for my “Original” and I can assure you that the “Original” charger works just fine with the Series 4.

Definitely., The concavity of the Series 4 charger changed. It’s slightly deeper. Charging works with previous chargers, but it’s not a 100% fit, not the same curve
