iPhone XS Max IP68?

I bought an iPhone 7+ from a 6 because I use it for navigation on my motorcycle and it was advertised that the 7+ was IP68. First major rainfall whilst on my motorcycle and you guessed, water damage. I spent ages in Apple Store complaining and was pointed towards the warranty did not apply to water damage.

I now have pre-ordered the new flagship phone and a factor was it is now IP68 but the specification sheet says water damage not covered.

So should I use an aftermarket waterproof case like the LifeProof FRE or risk that in fact it is IP68 and I'll be fine using a naked phone?

iPad 2, iOS 5.0.1, null

iPhones are not waterproof. If you are going to be using them where they will regularly be exposed to the elements, get an appropriate case. Cases such as LifeProof will not cause your phone to overheat.

Yes, people have taken their phones scuba diving and gotten lucky. And AppleCare+ can be a great thing. But, it only covers two incidence of damage over two years.

I have been using a Garmin Zumo 595 for many miles and it is IPX7, which is the same as my iPhone7+, on my motorcycle for many years. It is a faired touring bike so the rain is not hitting them anymore than just in the rain.

However for security I will use a LifeProof case that I know works I was just hopeful I would not have to put an IP68 phone into a cumbersome IP68 holder just to get IP68 protection!

I am a scuba instructor and my X goes underwater almost every day not deep and I haven’t ever had any problems I have it in a mesh drop restistant case so the water will not get trapped so I guess that is just has to be your decision. I recommend buying Apple care over a lifeproof case cause I tried that and it worked great except the case fried my last phone from overhea
