Dual monitor not possible?

I have two monitors cabled up to my Mac Pro (late 2008) and only one monitor will display. If I access the Control Panel, Displays, there is no mention or option to select either display.

On the graphics card, I have one HDMI and one DVI output, both cabled up to the two monitors.

I'm running El Capitan 10.11.6.

The graphics card is an ATI Radeon HD 4870 512 MB.

Am I to assume this particular video card cannot support dual-monitors?

Thanks!

The ATI 4870 will happily support two displays simultaneously.

You can not "stack" adapters, but must accomplish all conversions with ONE adapter.

You have not indicated which port is not working, and what it is attached to.
