I created a new Pages document and assigned a password to it. But I can open it without even being asked for a password. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, were you able to correct it?

One possibility is related to an option that you may have chosen when you opted to require a password for the document. See the following from Pages for Mac: Password-protect a Pages document

If your computer isn’t set up for Touch ID, “Remember this password in my keychain” appears. You can select the checkbox to add the password to your keychain so you don’t have to type the password each time.
