Apple Watch for a 14 year old

I am thinking about buying an Apple Watch for my 14 year old son since he has always wanted one. What are the pros and cons of giving a teen an Apple Watch? Could it help him in school?

The two posts above make very good points about the risk to high value equipment, and the need for an iPhone. I will add the observation that many schools are finding problems with smartphones and similar devices, particularly with the distraction of social networking during lessons and also cyberbullying. It is now getting to the point they are now starting to ban devices or require they are checked in when the students arrive, and returned when they leave school at the end of the day.

Also note that the Apple watch is not a stand alone device. It will need to be paired to an iPhone and as such will receive all calls and messages from that iPhone, as well as merging its data with that of the paired iPhone.

Unless he already has an iPhone, its not a good idea as you would probably need to then set it up and pair it with your iPhone.
