How is screen time calculated?

2 primary questions:

- will it count if an app is running in the background?

- why does the total time on each app come up short of the total screen time?

How does screen time work when it calculates the time on a given app? Hi can anyone share how screentime actually calculates the time per app? is it just whether the app is open? and what if a hyperlink is clicked from say Instagram that takes the user to somewhere else.

Screen time is combined or app specific? I set a screen time for 4 apps for 30 minutes understanding that it’s 30 minutes per app. But it turns out that after a few minutes of using the apps the screen time runs out. Does the 30 minutes mean a combined time of all 4 apps or is it each app?

Screen Time minutes never add up correctly to total. So apparently my screen time minutes don’t add up correctly for the total. Is it just how they are calculated or is this an ongoing bug? Thanks.

each app runs for a short time in the background but it is not significant. The reason the total app comes up short is that you can be looking at your screen without an app open.
