Does Walkie-Talkie Feature Work Between 2 Contacts Sharing Apple ID?

My husband and I share the same Apple ID so we can sync all our calendars, desktops, files, contacts, etc. I originally set-up the Apple ID.

We both have iPhone 8 Plus running iOS 12, and can make FaceTime audio calls by selecting each other in Contacts.

We also have Apple watches Series 3 running iOS 5.

From my Apple Watch walkie-talkie app I can invite my husband as a contact. He, however cannot see or accept the invitation on his Apple watch. He cannot invite me as my contact within the walkie-talkie app is grayed out.

Is this the expected operation of the walkie-talkie app under this circumstance? If so, is there a work-around?

Just hung up with a Senior Advisor at Apple Support. No, Walkie-Talkie app DOES NOT work with devices under the same Apple ID. Its kind of un-natural for Apple to have it set up only to work among different Apple ID's since family members under the same roof (specially partners or spouses) use the same Apple ID in order to have many thing synced (like Photos in iCloud). So there you have it, if you want to use the Walkie-Talkie app you would have to set up a different Apple ID plus make all the changes that follow that not to mention re-sync everything. Or, you may wait. I'm almost certain Apple will make available another way to communicate with the same Apple ID via update since FaceTime works perfectly with the same Apple ID on different devices by choosing different ways to reach each device so that you don't get a call intended for another family member. For now, I will just forget the Walkie-Talkie app exists.

Apple programmers must have based the Walkie Talkie App using Facetime on your phone. When my Walkie Talkie and my daughters (who shares my Apple ID), would not work, I searched and came up with all the fixes for the Walkie Talkie app not showing up was to reload facetime and/or make sure to have marked the email for Facetime on your phone. So it just made sense to me that two people with the same ID email could not do Walkie Talkie. I created a new Apple ID and used it only for Facetime on my phone. Walkie Talkie clicked in immediately.

You can create many calendars as you like.

FWIW:

My son, daughter, wife and myself all have our own unique Apple ID & password.

I have created 5 calendars, (could be more if needed)

1. a calendar with my son's name (school activities)

Shared with my son, wife and myself

2. a calendar with my daughter's name (ditto)

Shared with my daughter, wife and myself

3. a calendar with my wife's name

Shared with my wife and myself

4. a calendar called Family for the whole family.

Shared with everyone in the family

If I want everyone to know, I can create events in the family calendar and every one will see it on their devices' calendar.

Example my daughter has a Mac, an iPhone and an Apple Watch and the calendars we shared will appears on all her devices using (her Apple ID)

For details, read here: iCloud: Share calendars in iCloud

Unfortunately, if I understand correctly, sharing an Apple ID is the only way spouses can see all their calendars (color-code by topic) across all devices, so they know in advance if there will be conflicts when they schedule new events. The single Family calendar feature created by the Family Sharing feature does not provide this capability.

If my understanding is incorrect, I would love to know how to share multiple calendars between two people with different Apple IDs using Family Sharing. Or some other feature if it exists.

Are you saying this multiple calendar workaround by sharing an Apple ID will keep the Walkie-Talkie feature from working? Because can we still perform FaceTime audio calls, shouldn’t the walkie-talkie feature work?
