My battery claimed 93% health, but went from full charge to empty within 30 min. That started one week before iOS 12, and software update didn’t change it.
Got a new battery from Apple without touching anything else. Now the iPhone 6S after a long day of usage is still at 60% charge. Latest iOS 12.
I strongly recommend getting a new battery, while Apple is still offering them this year for little money.

I changed my battery. I've been using my 6s Plus without battery saver, on wi-fi, all apps running in background, location services turned on... Just abusing it, Battery lasts me like before. I can barely get it under 20% in one day of intense usage. If there was a software issue, it is fixed with this very last update (I also updated to 12.1). I would recommend you all to change the battery if the "Battery health" is below 80%.
You can add one other item to your list and that is change "Fetch Data" to 30 Minutes.
Go to Setting - Passwords & Accounts- Scroll all the way down and change "Fetch Data"
and enjoy the Consolation Prize.
Same here.
Battery said it still had 93% capacity, but was empty after 30 min email checking.
Went to Apple store, got a new battery, now the phone lasts hours again.
Same hardware, same software, same apps running.
It was a hardware problem of the battery, just plain and simple.
After about one week on ios12.1 updated with a DFU restore, the battery is performing better than on ios12! I have no more dramatic drops in battery percentage as I was getting on ios12 or at the begining on ios12.1
My battery graphs are getting normal (not herratic as before). The battery is still not as great as before, but it is way better! It lasted 3 hours of youtube for 50% of the battery (on wifi).
However, I needed to turn off a lot of location, mail, background refresh and notofications features manually to be able to have a normal battery life.
In the picture below you can see a day of heavy use (youtube before dinner and after 3 pm a mix of google map gps, 3g safari, wifi facebook, etc)
I normally don’t use my phone that much in one day, so I think I am good.)
Good luck!
I haven't updated to iOS12 yet (I came across this page while reading up to decide whether or not I should), but I had issues with poor battery after updating to iOS11 and discovered I could get a free battery replacement. Apple have been offering free battery replacements for some iPhone 6S phones due to unexpected shutdown issues (I didn't experience unexpected shutdown but it turned out my phone was eligible). I thought I'd share in case it was useful for anyone - you just have to enter your serial number on this page and if your phone is eligible then Apple will replace your battery for free: iPhone 6s Program for Unexpected Shutdown Issues - Apple Support I think you can also claim a refund if you've paid for a battery replacement. My battery was at 82% capacity before I got it replaced and it's made a huge difference.
If someone is willing to do a DFU restore and use his iphone as « new iphone » and not restoring from his backup, we could see it this was the main thing that helped my battery (and would help yours) or if it was because I changed the battery.
It is a pain to reinstall everything and relog in every app, but I think a lot of people would prefer this over a draining battery!
Let me know !
I got through this by restoring my 6s as new from scratch, now it’s not great but not so bad as as well, normal use gets me to the end of the day with 30 to 20% battery
(the 6s has never been as good as SE/7/8)
Have you tried?
f.
Try shutting off "Background App Refresh" for both of those.
Finally, it becomes better after cut the following function,
1. Turn off all location
2. Turn all locked screen notifications off
3. Turn off “pick to awake”
Hope Apple can fix it.
Hello,
Hopefully this thread will get a fix soon. I’m going to share my expereince as I think it will be the nail in the coffin on doubt for most all of us.
I am on iPhone 6s and updated to iOS 12 and experienced the same drastic battery decline as all of you.
I went to the Apple store and got the battery replaced for a small fee (less than £30) and it took 24 hours before getting my phone back.
With my new battery I noticed and increase in battery performance from before BUT still a drastic difference from how it operated on iOS 11. I contacted support and they pretty much confirmed there was nothing they could do. That there is ‘no magic wand’ to fix such an issue (their wording not mine)
As a last ditch effort I backed up and restored my phone. No noticeable change.
Bare in mind my usage is pretty general, safari browsing and social media mainly. Mail on manual updates and background app refresh OFF.
I believe that with the new iPhone model being sold this is just an unfortunate case of older models being pushed out of functionality.
I highly recommend the ‘best’ result today is to have a portable battery pack with you at all times. I’m sorry so many of us have been hit by this update.
Hopefully Apple will resolve it soon.
though this is also another consolation, but trying erasing your settings. I did it and it slightly increased the performance but it is still around 20% of what it was before the upgrade. and phone still goes off at around 30% battery 😟
iOS 12.1 didn't help me either. I wouldn't rush to change the battery (unless it's free). Mine is pretty new, it's at 95% and it doesn't help. The only thing that helps somewhat is to completely close as many apps as possible (even though I have turned off Background App refresh, and have minimal authorizations for location services).
I recommend you don’t downgrade to Samsung.
You could downgrade your phone, it will void the warranty, but it will make your phone useful. Find a video online and downgrade to a older operating system. As your battery gets older, it will get slower. New batteries are about $29 as they are on sale now.
