My battery claimed 93% health, but went from full charge to empty within 30 min. That started one week before iOS 12, and software update didn’t change it.

Got a new battery from Apple without touching anything else. Now the iPhone 6S after a long day of usage is still at 60% charge. Latest iOS 12.

I strongly recommend getting a new battery, while Apple is still offering them this year for little money.

Someone in this article is pointing out that apple screen time feature could drain the battery.

Maybe it would be good to give it a shot and disable the feature to see if it helps.

My phone was also not old (1 y.o.) ans my battery was 89% so in good health.

I changed the battery and did a whipeout of the phone and used it as « new iphone », which helped a bit. I still dont have the battery life I had on ios10.3.3 but it seems better.

Today I got 4h20min screen on time and I still have 28% left. Still not great, but better than the -30% in one minute battery that I had before..

Before you buy a new phone, I would highly recommand you try this. My battery was dropping by chunks of 30% sometimes after upgrading to ios12. I payed 40$ to replace my battery but I doubt that it is besause I changed it. I think it is more because I did this (I am now able to have 5-6 hours of screen on time, wich is not great but better that 2h..). I urge you to try this before paying 1000$ for a new phone! :

Step 0: save all your files and pictures, make a back up in case it does not work, so you can simply come back to your old disfuctioning phone but with all your data.

1. Do a DFU restore of the phone (check a video on youtube). You need to download the latest ios from itunes and be connected to the iphone with lightning cable befor begining. You need to press and hold home and power button and release the power button while holding home button. A message will appeare on itunes saying an iphone in recovery mode was detected. You need to act fast (lile no more than 2 sec) and click on restore iphone. If the phone wake up and gonto home screen, you were to slow, but if it is restoring, it was ok!

2. Use the iphone as a new Iphone, dont restore from a backup (important as the root of the problem could be in the backup).

3. Under settings, privacy, location, systems services, turn off everything except sos calls and find my iphone (it will not impact anything, its just location data apple uses except for the two I mentionned or if you use the geo fence functionality to remind you of something when you leave a location).

4. Under this same section, go to « important locations » and turn it off (it is always tracking you to know if you are in a big city).

5. Under settings, privacy, location, turn all location in app to « when using app » or off completely.

5. Under settings, privacy, analytics, turn analytics off.

6. Under passwords and accounts, turn off push notifications to recover every 15 min, and change it also for every mail account!

7. Put back your pictures from itunes and redownload every app from scratch (i know it is

Painfull).

8. Cross your fingers and see if it works. If not, the last step would be to change your battery with the 29$ (or 35$ in Canada) program.

It worked for me to have at least 5h-6h of screen on time (with new battery).

I hope it will help others!

Apple really need’s to be careful or it will lose valued cutomers with those issues happening with 1 year old phones!

Peace Y

Yes the exact same thing is happening with me. I upgraded my phone (which was working optimally) and gave my son my 6s and he updated to iOS 12 and now the battery drains RAPIDLY. He missed an appointment as a result this morning because it lost all power and his alarm didn't go off! APPLE PLEASE SORT THIS RAPID BATTERY DRAIN ISSUE ASAP! I will be posting to all on twitter as well to see if anyone has a workaround.

This battery drain is ridiculous. I have tried every trick given (even though I shouldn't have to because it worked fine before the update). I now have to charge my phone several times a day if I want to make it all day, I have had it go dead on me now twice at events where I couldn't charge it. I've never had that happen with any iphone I've had in the past. As a final test, I tried charging my battery to 100%, then unplugged it when I went to sleep. My phone sat for exactly 8 hours, with the bluetooth off and in DND mode... and when I woke up it was at 60%. This will be the reason why I look at competitors on my next upgrade.
