Hi, here in the UK Virgin Media is one of the main TV providers. And their web streaming service uses Silverlight (which is a safari extension). But after updating to Safari 12.0 the extension seems to have gone and after repeatedly reinstalling it seems to not be appearing. Does anyone know a work around for this as the "run in safe mode" option is no longer available in 12.0 (Microsoft Article)?

We debated trying to recover back to a pre-update TimeMachine backup, but both of these workstations do other tasks, so the issue was then copying what needs to be kept, etc.
FWIW, i found the SeaMonkey browser (built off of the Mozilla Gecko engine) and it is working far so well.

Other that having to allow it to launch via System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> General -> "Allow" it is working well with Silverlight.
I just downloaded and installed SeaMonkey 2.49.4. Hitting PLAY on Netflix brings me to their system requirements page - it doesn't ask me to install silverlight like Safari does. I checked the plugins page, and it sees the latest version of silverlight, yet doesn't seem to be using it. Anyone running SeaMonkey have any advice?
Thanks for posting this suggestion. Our company needs to utilize NJ state databases over the web, and with several employees working on Macs, the Safari 12 update seemed like a death nail, as the "official" only workaround according to the state, is to utilize IE 11, which of course Macs do not support any longer. Tested and working as intended with State Silverlight plug- ins. Headache averted.
I know, it is really annoying as I can't stream any content. I have reported it to Virgin, but how far that will get I don't know! 🙂
I just don't understand the logic in allowing Flash to be the one NPAPI plugin allowed...

I believe Microsoft has already said they are supporting Silverlight 5 until October of 2021.
This response worked for me. Just now I downloaded and it’s working with Silverlight as streaming Vodafone and Netflix.
I SOLVE IT. INSTALL OR UPDATE TO MAC HIGH SIERRA. NOW IT IS WORKING
I have High Sierra OS X 10.13.6 and Silverlight doesn’t work with Netflix. Did you do something specific?
just upgrade to high sierra 10.13.1 and restart.
The most surprising part of this reply is learning that Netflix is using Silverlight to deliver content over the web.
What version of Safari are you running? That is all that matters in this context.

Microsoft has committed to supporting Silverlight for one year *longer* than Adobe has committed supporting Flash. (2021 vs 2020) so why would Apple allow Flash but not Silverlight?
