Unable to add a child to Screen Time

I'm unable to add one of my children to the Screen time monitoring. I can add my 14 year old but I cannot add my 12 year old. He IS on my family sharing though. Why can't I view him in screen time?

iPhone 7, iOS 12

Same solution for me, could only see one child previously so I logged out of iCloud, waited a minute and logged back in, then I could see and enable Screen Time settings for both children from my own Iphones Screen Time interface :)

Greetings Nina GB,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It seems like you are not able to setup Screen Time for a family member. It may be that the device the other user has is not running iOS 12.

To use Screen Time with Family Sharing, you need to be the family organizer or parent/guardian in your family group, on iOS 12. Your child must be under age 18, in your family group with their own Apple ID, and on iOS 12.

Take care.

i hope it all works out for you. also update your phone and your kid’s phone when apple has a new version of os.

i was ignoring the update for awhile until i needed to do/change something on my son’s phone, when i gave permission or extra time to his phone from my phone, his phone wasn’t responding, meaning it was still lock and i couldn’t do anything changes or delete apps from his phone. i decided to update our phones and it worked.

key is to always make sure your phone is updated. apple is just manipulative like that😁

I have the same problem. But I have achieved partial results. What I did:

1. Updated my and our two children's iPhone to iOS 12. My wife's iphone didn't yet. Me and my wife is Parent user and our two children are Child (under 16) user. We are in Family Sharing for long ago.

2. Turned on Screen Time on my phone as parent user and after I turned on it on my kids phones as child user.

3. Their name did not appear in the screen time app and I did not control them. The app worked in stand alone mode. I checked this: Settings > My Apple ID > Family Sharing > Shared Functions > Screen Time. I found it turned off. But impossible to switch.

4. I did the following many times: devices soft/hard reset, Apple ID logout-login, Screen time swith off-on, etc... but nothing changed

5. It doesnt't changed for 2 days.

6. I updted my wife's device to iOS 12. Turned on Screen Time and to my surprise appeared the children's name in app. In my device too. It's too nice to be true...

7. I can not manage my son's device. The other one is perfect.

8. I did step 4. again. Unsuccessfully.

I have only one short question after I suffered several hours: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ?

I'd like to know as well how to view my child in Family Sharing Screen Time. I go to her device and it says its not turned on under family sharing screen time for her and to click it to access the settings to turn it on. I click it, and there isn't anything that says it will turn on Family Sharing Screen Time for my daughters device. This feature is really trash with its implementation, Apple is just pushing half baked garbage out more often now.

I love the premise behind Screen Time, but theres no reason it shouldn't have been properly implemented before making iOS12.

The picture is of her device under Family Sharing>Screen Time.

I wholeheartedly agree, we do spend enough money on Apple products to justify much better support!

We have 8 apple devices in our home and rushed to upgrade to iOS 12 to use Screen Time, only to have it not function from parent phone to kids phone. And when I called in to Apple support, none of the "advisors" knew how to help me, only said they'd get back to me in a few days after consulting with tech support. The last time I called in for support they sent me to Screen Time Labs (who had the name Screen Time first). I am so upset with Apple right now!
