Lowering a track fader quesition

If I have a track with say a vocal on, with EQ then a compressor, then a bus send to a reverb for example...

If I bring down the fader on that track, does it affect the proccessing done on that track? Or will it just lower the whole volume together with the plug in etc?

Or does it only affect the original signal?

Short answer is "no"...

This is quite a common misconception, but lowering the fader does not lower the volume inputted to plugins inserted on that track. (If you open a compressor & pull the fader right down, you'll see the compressor's input & output levels remain the same). Strictly speaking, altering the volume input into a compressor does not alter the threshold you have set - only the level at which a compressor reacts to the signal).

The best solution is to output your vocal track to a mono bus (using the output menu, not sends), & insert your compressor on the bus insert. That way when you pull down the track fader, the corresponding bus compressor reacts to the signal accordingly. The advantage of this approach is that if you've got lots of automation going on in a track, the bus compressor will react more consistently, & the compressor's effects will be more transparent.

To add to Octopi's post, be sure to set your sends to 'Post Fader' if sending the signal to a bus reverb - that way when you pull your track fader down, the relative balance of vocal to reverb will be maintained.
