MacOS Mojave 32bit Apps

Hi all! I have a question for you: i have read that in mac os mojave apple terminate the support for 32bit apps. What does it mean? For example, i'm using an application called XLD on my macbook pro for convert cds cue+flac in .m4a audio files. Now High sierra tells me that the applications isn't optimized for my mac but with mojave i can continue to use it or it's blocked regardless? Thank you for help!

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014), macOS Sierra (10.12.6)

The author of XLD is aware of this issue and is apparently working on a 64bit version. See - https://sourceforge.net/p/xld/tickets/432/

That ticket has not been updated for a while and as I read it it seems some of the plugins used may still be 32bit even though the main program is 64bit. This may mean at least as of the version the ticket relates to that some permutations of file conversion would not work and others would.

I would keep an eye on that ticket and any other relevant ones on the same site. As a medium term solution you could setup a Mac VM running High Sierra and run that under Mojave. The free Parallels Desktop Lite is the best option for this - not VirtualBox.

I suppose one will have to test.

High Sierra is the last version to run 32-bit applications “without compromises”, as Apple put it. It appears that some may still work in Mojave, but I would not count on it.

If you need to keep older applications there are several established options.

You can keep a separate drive ir partition with High Sierra or some older OS. You can keep an older mac running an older OS. And you can install an older version oc the OS on a virtual machine.
