Bluetooth symbol is not visible in the status bar after updating to iOS 12

After updating my iPhone SE to iOS 12, I am not able to see the bluetooth symbol in the status bar through which I can be aware whether the bluetooth is turned on or not. It is not visible even when paired to my JBL bluetooth speaker. Please let me know if there is any way of making the symbol visible in the status bar.

Bluetooth is either on or off. And that is why there is no longer a BT symbol on the home screen. It didn't mean diddly when it was there. You still have the symbol and total control over it being active (on) or inactive (off) in Control Center and/or Settings > Bluetooth. For the last couple years, Apple has slowly been leading us down the path to understand it's just not necessary to ever turn Bluetooth off. If you have Apple Watch, it won't connect with your phone if BT is off. If you use BT to connect to your car, you'll see if you're paired in the car screen. If you use a BT speaker or headphone, it will either play music if paired and on, or won't if BT is off.

Why do you think you need a BT symbol on your home screen? Please don't say because it uses more power. That is a false premise people still seem to cling to. The BT radio in your phone uses very little power.

In fact, when BT is NOT paired with a device, only the BT symbol would be displayed, when paired with my device, a headset and battery life icon of that device show up in place of the BT icon, so again, if you’re here to argue a topic which apparently does not affect you, and you aren’t here to offer any sort of legitimate or useful advice, your comments really are of no use...

How about understanding that no one can connect to your phone via Bluetooth, so what privacy is it you think having Bluetooth enabled on your phone takes away from you? Bluetooth doesn't connect phone to phone, so no one in a room can see your phone. Bluetooth connects to Bluetooth devices like headphones and speakers. There is SO MUCH misinformation about Bluetooth out there. You should read about Bluetooth and better understand what your speaking about.

I'd guess people see you, the actual person in the room. That is unless you've learned how to make yourself invisible. So again, let's say someone as you say can see your phone (BTW., they can't unless they're walking around with a Bluetooth device in Pairing mode), how is that in any way invasive to your privacy?

And BTW., I have just confirmed that sitting in my own home with another iPhone and two iPads on and Bluetooth turned on, none of the other devices see my phone, nor can my phone see the other devices.

Again, you clearly don't understand how Bluetooth works, so you're creating scenarios that aren't actual issues.

Okay so lets skip that and go to another scenario... I’m in my car, letting a few friends in, unknowing that the bluetooth has paired me with the car, when all of the sudden the phone rings. It may be okay for everyone to see from the screen of the car who’s calling... or it may be that I would have prefferred this call not to be seen by anyone else. I can still decline the call, but my contact has already been exposed to everyone in the car.

Of course its off now. Thats not the point. Its the possibility of even one time when a setting on a phone- not set by the user- gives the user problems they don’t deserve, when people must say this isn’t right.

This statement makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. There is no setting on the phone not set by you the user. I'm going to again recommend you guy a flip phone and never have to worry about any of this.

I’m sorry to bother you, your Royal iPhone highness, but there is the ”bluetooth on”- setting that automatically is set to ”on”, after the update, even when the user hasn’t set it on. And the fact that the bluetooth active- logo (or the bluetooth logo) is not showing anymore, is not good policy. Whether you accept it or not, there are people with a paranoid set of mind, who still think getting an iphone is more NSA- safe than an Android- phone.

Sigh.........Settings > Bluetooth > Tap Bluetooth off turns Bluetooth off PERMANENTLY. You simply keep demonstrating you DON'T understand how Bluetooth works on iPhone.

Firstly, to all my supporters. Just wished to make an observation, and many thanks. I am sure that Apple has noted. Thanks to all the supporters and it obviously gets noted that after swapping the 🙂 and the .?123 around, people spoke and Apple obviously listened as they have since reverted the keys to where they were before an update. Yay.

To my detractors and you know who you are, keep your thoughts to yourself. Get a life as it seems from your interest, you must live with your Apple device permanently attached to yourself. This is obvious from your number of posts.

Now to rbrylawski, as this is not your post, how pretentious of you to and I quote

”No need to write back. I think we’ve covered this enough now” You have attempted to hijack MY post, Back off And while you are at it, get a life.

Thanks to all. I believe that the subject had been more than adequately covered and I, not rbrylawski, now consider this post closed. 👍

I do not know who you are nor is it of my concern but I will say that I found your answer to be extremely rude and unprofessional. I myself work for a MAJOR software firm and I would never have answered in such a manner. Just because we are 20 something doesn’t mean we automatically know everything there is to know about technology and furthermore it is not common sense as you implied that the Bluetooth symbol should not be visible. If that’s the case then why is the Wi-Fi symbol visible when we all know everyone is connected to Wi-Fi and if it’s not connected to Wi-Fi we’re outside of that zone preference then we’re automatically connected to our cellular provider that’s common sense but your manner of answering the question was less clear but extremely irritating. I suggest you check your own commonsense before acting as if others don’t use it. JBH

The arrogant Apple engineers that make any changes that affect the operation of the product negatively will never admit that they made a mistake, as is clearly demonstrated in the condescending responses and comments that were made in this, and all other conversations that involve performance reducing modifications. The Apple responses would lead one to the conclusion that there is a lack of interest in the feedback from customers that ishould be considered extremely valuable in creating a product that functions to the customers’ expectations. Continuing, lack of positive response, and empathy, to customers’ concerns guarantees that those customers will eventually cease to be your customers.
