After updating my iPhone SE to iOS 12, I am not able to see the bluetooth symbol in the status bar through which I can be aware whether the bluetooth is turned on or not. It is not visible even when paired to my JBL bluetooth speaker. Please let me know if there is any way of making the symbol visible in the status bar.

Bluetooth is either on or off. And that is why there is no longer a BT symbol on the home screen. It didn't mean diddly when it was there. You still have the symbol and total control over it being active (on) or inactive (off) in Control Center and/or Settings > Bluetooth. For the last couple years, Apple has slowly been leading us down the path to understand it's just not necessary to ever turn Bluetooth off. If you have Apple Watch, it won't connect with your phone if BT is off. If you use BT to connect to your car, you'll see if you're paired in the car screen. If you use a BT speaker or headphone, it will either play music if paired and on, or won't if BT is off.
Why do you think you need a BT symbol on your home screen? Please don't say because it uses more power. That is a false premise people still seem to cling to. The BT radio in your phone uses very little power.
Sigh all you want. Updating your iPhone sets the bluetooth back to active. AND doesen’t show it to you anymore.

So once every 2-3 months you need to turn off Bluetooth. And you know you have to do it, because you know that updating turns it on. Doesn't sound all that impossible.
I wish I could remember all the things I need to do.
Like Lawrence said, every few months when an iOS update comes out, you turn it off again.

Why do you need to turn Bluetooth off to use Apple Car Play in your car? I use Apple Car Play all the time and I have never once had to turn Bluetooth off for it to work.

I liked it because you could see how much battery life was left on your device. now you don’t know until your out somewhere and it starts beeping.
In addition to the bluetooth indicator there was also a batter indicator for the device which was very useful for headphones that do not have one.
The battery indicator for headphones and speakers is still there. Note that not all BT devices support that feature.
i can manage the ugly performance but I can’t find my paired JBL speaker battery life which supposed to be displayed together with the Bluetooth symbol😢😢
Why? Now we can’t tell whether our headphone device synced with our phones. Am I missing something?
Omg me too and I can’t even get my hotspot to turn on because the pull down menu isn’t syncing with the settings and I’m sick of it.
