split screen show search history on the left and search on the right. Went to settings already, was set to zoomed, restarted. still split. Would like to permanently disable this feature

I don’t know if this works for your iPhone but it worked to disable it in my iPad:
Settings ▶ Safari ▶ Clear History And Web Site Data
