How to install a version of Compressor that is compatible with OSX 10.11.6?

Hi,

I was advised by Apple Support that if I installed Compressor onto my Mac
(10.11.6), then it would automatically give me a lesser version of Compressor
that is compatible with the Mac (a similar situation occurred when I
reinstalled FCPX on my Mac and it gave me the version compatible with my
current operating system).

However, when I go to install Compressor, it is not giving me a version for
10.11.6, but is only telling me that I have to upgrade to the next operating
system.

Do you know of a solution to this, and if there is a way to get a version of
Compressor for 10.11.6?

*I cannot upgrade my system at this time.

Have you purchased Compressor before, or are you trying to purchase it now? If you purchased it from the App Store, don't go to the Compressor page but to your Purchase page and download it from there.

Hi Tom,

Thank you for your reply.

I do not yet have Compressor and have attempted to purchase it from the App Store, but when I click "Buy" it gives me a window that stops the transaction and just tells me it couldn't be installed due to my version of the operating system. When I go into "purchased" it does not show up in order to Install.

It seems like it should have converted to the version viable for my system and allowed me to purchase/Install, as Apple had explained, but that is not what it is doing.

Is there anything else that can be done to either Install it or troubleshoot why it isn't completing the transaction and allowing me to install the compatible version? (Note: This issue didn't occur when reinstalling FCPX, it just gave me the compatible version automatically, even though there were higher versions - it didn't stop the transaction or installation.)

I appreciate your time and information.

There isn't unfortunately a mechanism for purchasing an older version. There is a workaround however using an external drive to install the current OS. Don't update the OS from the Update window. Download the full installer from the High Sierra page. Run the installer and install on the external drive. Once it's installed, boot off the external drive and in the App Store purchase the current version of Compressor using the Apple ID you want associated with the software. Once that's installed, shut down the computer and remove the external drive. Boot into your system drive 10.11.6. Go to the App Store and in the Purchased page you'll see Compressor with an install button. Install that and you'll get the version appropriate for your OS.
