Apple Podcast on IOS12 broken BMW carplay

Hi,

Updated to iOS12 and Apple Podcasts now exhibits odd behaviour on BMW head unit. All other carplay apps work fine including the new google maps (hurrah). Symptoms are basically that touch control occasionally works, control knob randomly jumps around items and never settles on any to select.

The touch and control knob are fine on any other app and the main menu in carplay.

I've reset the head unit and phone but makes no difference.

Any ideas?

Hello,

I, too, have a similar problem with the Podcast app after upgrading to iOS12. I have a Honda and Carplay seems to work well with Google maps but not with the Podcast app. The screen will stop responding to touch and the app regularly can't find its own content. This leads to me taking my eyes off the road to touch the screen (=safety hazard). The problem will disappear if I turn off the car and re-start but this is not an option on my commute. Before the iOS12 upgrade the app was stable.

Help please as I need my podcasts back.

I use an iPhone 6s with iOS12

11-27-2018 Update: The Podcast app not displaying on my head unit issue did return one time after the using the new cable, so the issue is likely not cable-related. On the day the Podcast issue returned with my head unit, I noticed that the Podcast app would NOT properly close throughout the day AFTER disconnecting my phone post commuting to work. Swiping-up to close the podcast app would NOT work throughout the day. Leaving work and connecting my phone to my head unit (via a cable) resulted in the same non-display Podcast app issue. In order to fix this issue, I had to shutdown the phone and restart. That fixed the issue since the Podcast app was properly shut down. The issue hasn't returned since that one time. To sum up my recent experience, the Podcast app appeared to not "disconnect" properly from carplay, which caused the display issue the next time I connected my phone to my head unit. That seems like a code issue.

Keeping cellular data on for Podcasts resolves all the app freeze issues for me too, but the data drain is unreasonable. Fairly certain it’s a bug— pre-iOS12, I was using podcasts in CarPlay without cellular data with no issues. FWIW, audiobooks in iBooks also glitches out when using in CarPlay with cellular data turned off.

I have had this issue as well. I drive a 2018 Honda Clarity PHEV. I will often get a message on the car screen that Podcasts cannot connect to it's content and after that when I select the Podcast app on the phone (which continues to work just fine) I get a blank screen on the car display. All other apps are working properly. The only solution I have found so far is to restart the phone. I find myself doing this at least once per day, sometimes more. I was having this issue with iOS 11 also but not nearly as frequently. I too would like Apple to address this. Phone and chat support are useless as there is no way to reliably trigger this issue.
