This controls the rotation for apps, not the home screen (which is what this thread is about)...

Really hope so. Seem's like a lot of Plus users are upset with the XS Max UX experience as it's a step backwards. Being able to use the larger iPhones like a little iPad is one of the only real benefits of having the larger display. Loosing landscape home screen ***** bad and I don't think it has anything to do with Face ID as you couldn't actually unlock a Plus model in landscape either, it wasn't until the device was unlocked that it could actually be rotated and used solely in landscape, so Face ID not working in landscape is not the issue. I think it's more so the notch and what to do about the dock when rotating the device. It also ***** how Mail/Files and others now loose the static split view in favor of that annoying side menu that constantly slides in and out. Really hope in a future update Apple reverts to Landscape home screen and all the split view apps how they work on the Plus models. Otherwise there is no point to getting the large model any more.

Here is what I did to fix this: Placed iPhone XS Max in Original package and sent it right back within 30 day return policy. Then I went and bought an iPhone 8 Plus (product RED) for over $1100 less than the price of the Max. Best Apple related decision I ever made. $1800 for large memory iPhone Max with Apple Care is ridiculous.... and it can't even do what my awesome iPhone 8 plus can do. Plus I get to unlock the iPhone without picking it up and staring at it.

I should have done that and, almost, did. It’s ridiculous that they can’t figure out how to make the camera work in landscape position...or whatever they have to do to make the screen rotate. You’d think that a near trillion dollar company would have the tech support needed to fix this problem.

It really ticks me off Apple hasn't added home screen rotation on the XS Max. The entire point of buying the larger Plus and Max phones is to get the iPad like UI because the display is so large. What's the point of getting a Max if it doesn't do anything different other than blow up all the icons and text? Even the Xs has tabbed browsing now in landscape in Safari and 50% of apple's stock apps work in landscape mode on the Xs. The XS Max landscape split view ***** now too compared the Plus, it's not even true split view, apps like Files, Mail has the left menu pop in and out and in so it's basically useless. I don't buy for a second Apple doesn't allow landscape home screen because of Face ID either. Why would you ever need to use Face ID on the home screen? You could never unlock a Plus in landscape either so it's not because of the lock screen. It's such a poor UX when 55% of the Max allows landscape apps and then you go the the home screen or music and have to rotate the phone again. Apple needs to fix this or more and more people like the people here are going to return/not even buy the Max because it doesn't even do anything the XS doesn't, so what's the point!

Of course you can. As long as you know Rant's are against the Terms and Conditions you agreed to when you signed up to join this forum. And your post is most definitely a rant. All you did was rant to other users, which won't change a thing on the Apple Side.

This is completely unacceptable. There are hundreds of complaints on multiple sites about this issue alone not to mention the stutter screen, no CarPlay Bluetooth connectivity (I’ve tried on 3 different cars) and you can’t have multiple screens open which is maddening as I travel constantly for work and I need multiple screens open to edit docs. This device is very user unfriendly. I’m thankful I just bought it during the Verizon holiday promo and just activated a couple days ago. This unit is going back. This is an example of a company having too many ‘smarty pants’ developers and product engineers who don’t have to travel constantly or use the device like the majority of professionals and families with multitasking all day. Apple, pay attention to the myriad of complaints. You’re not doing your stock any favors.

This is a major no no to not inclusive I understand the reasoning behind iPhone not allowing rotate 180° because of facial recognition but many of us plug in our phones in our automobiles and have the cord facing the top upside down in our center Harmful not to include this.

Get over yourself ‘shareholder”. It’s the best phone on the market. I always get the latest iPhone on release day, from the 3G onwards, and have never been disappointed. Buy an Android, and join the smug anti-apple chaps! As far as investments go, avoid crypto currency, and maybe try premium bonds. All the best! :)

I've been wondering about this for quite some time and finally found my way to this thread. If you're new here like me, HOME SCREEN rotation is simply not supported on the Xs Max at this time. I bothered to read the thread before I posted. The details as to why are all in there but that's the bottom line.

What's even more astounding than the fact that it's not supported, is the sheer number of people that just posted answers with absolutely no clue as to what the REAL question was. Un-freakin-believable. And we wonder why society is doomed. Some people are so dying to speak that they never bother to listen first. Witness no more than this very thread as evidence.

Dear Appel, FIX this. People are not dum, they will use portrait mode for faceID login and then use the phone in landscape.. Seriously none of us who got this phone got it for free and so for something so premium this should not even be an issue. We are the users and your coustumers and we want this fixed yesterday so react please!
