How do you make columns equal in a table?

I have set up a table and created columns but cannot get them to 'justify' to a fixed equal width.

Dragging them by hand takes ages and is inaccurate.

What is the Key Command to 'make columns equal width' so that they spread out into the available space on the page?User uploaded file

Insert a table. By default, the Column Size is set to Fit, and Resize rows to fit cell contents is selected. Depending on your table goal, you can deselect at Resize rows… checkbox.

Let's say that you make a wider A column, and you want the remaining columns in the table to equalize. You select the B thru K column headers, and then from the Format menu : Table :Distribute Columns Evenly. Column A remains unchanged, but now columns B → K are equal width.

Initially when a table is first inserted, its columns are symmetrical, and just clicking the column increment icon will add more columns at the cost of column width to maintain symmetry within the document margins.

Thanks @PeterBreis ( I owe you a helpful point!) and thanks VikingOSX - between the two of you my problem is solved!

I didnt look at the options from the Toolbar menu.. instead I have always been in the habit of looking at the side bar where you do Command Option I to uncover the options which are more limited there .... where it doesnt have Distribute Columns evenly which it does have in the Toolbar menu.

Crazy how the brain stays in limited habits when using Applications...

Thanks again for your patience!
