Mac keeps asking to sign in

For some unknown apparent reason every time I wake my Mac Mini from sleep, I get a message telling me that some services will not be available to me until I sign in again. I click on the message and it opens up Preferences to the Apple ID sign in screen with an exclamation mark warning (see attached screen shot). I click on this warning, it brings up a prompt to enter my password, and after I do the warning still there.

Any clues on why this is happening and how to solve it?

thank you

p.s. I'm running High Sierra 10.13.6User uploaded file
