iPhone XS Max Weak 5GHz WIFI Reception
I used to have full bars at my bed with iPhone X, now the Max only has 2. And it has trouble reconnect to the WIFI after airplane mode is turned on with WIFI turned on.

Verizon carrier iPhones 10S and 10S Max are using the A1865 Qualcomm Modem vs A1901 Intel Modem. Does anyone have the 5GHz wifi issue using Verizon. My 10S issue was fixed with 12.01
You might be wrong about your statement about Apple. They are reading this thread and have been in contact with a number of us.
My XS Max has similar reception to previous iPhones on 5 GHz, also not that different than my last generation MacBook Pro.
Even got a new SIM card and paying more per month for faster connection with Verizon. Still not good. Apple. Fix this. $1200 phone and my 3 year old iPhone 6 was better.
Once again, you cannot compare "signal bars" between any two phones; they are not representative of absolute signal level rather they represent relative signal strength.
Let’s hope this brings some good results. Looking forward to what you find out.
I have this same problem on the iPhone Xs .. AND the brand new iPad 12.9 (2018) I just received today!
I’ve already logged an issue with Apple as performance issue.
What is the best number for Apple to call on this subject?
This is a real issue.
Great insight. Thank you. But why hasn’t this become a more public issue like antenae gate? This should be all over the press. $1200 phones not up to par.
My network has been split for years. My XS Max switches to the 2.4 network or LTE and is slower in the fringe areas of my house where other phones stay on the 5ghz network.
To make it clearer, my phone does not work on the 5ghz in my house in the same space where older phones including the X worked. Simple as that!
That’s a respectable answer. I will agree with that. Splitting the networks was the only way to make it feel semi normal....for me at least.
Got to keep the pressure on - I can not even get Apple to exchange the phone...
Not sure how you came to the conclusion that 12.1 solved most people’s WIFI problems. I did not make a difference in mine and Apple did not claim it did.
It has everything to do with the garbage intel modems. I’m surprised no one else wants to saw that. Go look at the iPhone 7 with Intel modem’s and you’ll see that they had issues also
