Hack?
When I open Safari, I get a screen that says Update Required, but nothing on the screen or URL references apple or safari. I'm wondering if there is a madatory update to Safari right now.

Ok, I am running the same OS version and I have Safari v. 12.0 (updated a few days ago). So, you need to update Safari, but absolutely NOT through that screen you showed. That is fake. Open the Mac App store (in your System Preferences) and check for updates there.

It's going to depend on what version of OS you are running and what version of Safari you are using as well, but usually with the newer versions of these, you'll get updates to Safari through the App Store. You can check in there and see if there is any updates available.
Well what Mac OS version are you on? And which Safari version are you running?
THank you so very much!!!! It just didn't look right to me--with no apple id anywhere on the page. Is there anything I can do to thwart this entity that apparently already has access to my computer?
Since it doesn't say apple or safari anywhere, I thought it might be an attempt get me to download malware.
Are you absolutely sure you are running 10.2.6??? That was discontinued about 10 years ago.
Or is is 10.12.6?
It is 10.12.6 Sierra.
OS 10.13.6 SAFARI 11.1.2
I went to the App store and clicked on check for software updates. There was none for Safari. I'll keep checking back. I'd surely like to get rid of that fake screen that pops up every time I open Safari. Any ideas?
Can't update to SAFARI 12
The A on my screen shows a A1
When clicking on same and trying to update, I get the following message:
Update “Safari.app”
“Safari.app” cannot be updated because its extensions are in use by “Spotlight.app”. Click OK and quit the application.
Then I'm asked to clicl "OK"
Again, cannot update
