trouble with iOS 12 and emoji icon

Question

How do I get the emoji icon supplied by iOS 12? Looks like a monkey in the instructions. When I queried iOS 12 it sent me to iMessage store.

The Animoji/Memoji feature is only available on the iPhone X and later.

Animoji/Memoji is not available to any iPad at this time. It requires the True Depth camera, which is only included in the iPhone X and later.
