Well, I had an appointment at the Genius Bar, so I drove an hour and a half just to be told by Apple after they ran some checks and reset on my phone, that it was not a software problem it is a hardware problem and they can’t/won’t fix it. This is not true Apple. My 6S was brand new four months ago , out of the box, and I had no problems with it until I updated to 12.0. The manager, if she was actually the manager, even told me she had never seen that message before. I said, “really? Because if you go on Apple support under community discussion there are quite a few people that this is happening to. “. She replied with “ no, we don’t read those because you can basically hear anything you want to hear“. APPLE THIS IS WRONG WRONG WRONG! I have to buy a new phone all because my phone software loaded 12.0 while I slept and it’s a HARDWARE problem???? This is UNETHICAL APPLE!!!!!

I went through the same thing -- I had tried the solutions above and one worked for a little bit but then back to the same error. I went to the apple store and I was getting the same story about sending it to the depot for repair, and then the guy noticed that I had applecare (I had forgotten). Boom, handed me a new phone and I was out the door.

My iPhone is bricked after the last update it did the cell network fail, then apple support told me to reset which bricked it. Apple will repair the antenna for “free”, but since there was a tiny crack on screen they want $150 to fix that first. On top of that I bought a new iPhone X in the meantime and I can’t restore from backup because it won’t update os. Going to be shopping other brands next time, Apple has gotten too big.

21 days later I got my iPhone 7 back. They fixed 3 things PLUS put in a new battery. This “new” battery is worse then what I had as its draining much faster with hardly any usage.

On a POSITIVE note, when I got my iPhone back I took the backup from 12/21/18 before I gave it to apple and it contained my full contact list plus every app I was using.

Mine went out after the update just before Christmas and it was a huge hassle just because of the timing and then they told me to reset the fun which totally bricked it, then they tried to give me the runaround about fixing it, saying they wanted to charge me since I had a tiny(unrelated and non problematic) crack on the screen. Eventually, after I bought a new phone and spent hours on the phone talking to people, they sent a replacement. Would have been so much easier if they had notified me of the problem before it happened, or just said hey we screwed up can we please fix it.

Hi there,

I've had this problem for years

It happens every time apple releases an IOS update.

You will probably notice that it happened to you around the time Apple released a new update.

The solution is very simple. (You can try resetting then network settings etc like others have suggested but in my experience most of the time it doesn't work).

The solution is to update to the next IOS.

BUT

DO NOT update using your phone.

That will screw it over. (Apple have a major problem updating their phones through the phone itself- the files get corrupted and it will be screwed over. If this happens, don't worry. You can try to revert back or reinstall the update or wait till the next update. Just DO NOT do it using the phone)

You have to connect it to itunes and use itunes to download the update and the phone.

If you go to Apple they will talk absolute BS. I have spent hundreds of hours on the phone and in person with them and with their engineers. They always conclude that there is a hardware fault and that I need to buy new phone because they won't repair it.

They are an absolutely disgusting company with no morals who either don't know how to fix their own products or won't tell their poor customers in the hope of getting more money out of them by buying a new phone.

This fix was originally done for me by a local phone shop in a few minutes who I went to after spending insane amounts of time speaking to Apple and not getting anywhere.

This happened to my phone today (after Apple released a new update) for like the 6th time already.

I wonder whether Apple purposely disables phones that don't download the new update...

If anyone from Apple is reading this - shame on you!

I had EXACTLY THE SAME EXPERIENCE.

Their employees are brainwashed. You cannot reason with them. It is like a cult.
