U3214Q 4K scaling in MacOS

I just got a U3216Q Monitor as a warranty exchange for my broken UP2715K monitor. Even though I love this monitor there is something very annoying about it. I can't scale it properly in MacOS. the 2 resolutions that fully make use of 4K are 3840 x 2160 (which makes everything way to small) and 1920 x 1080 HiDPI mode (makes buttons way too big). Is there a way to somehow get 1440p HiDPI on the U3216Q in MacOS?

(It would really suck if Apple consciously removed support for this monitor as this is definitely one of the better 4K monitors out there! the color accuracy and contrast are amazing, which make it a great companion for a Mac.)

Thanks for your reply but those are lower resolutions then your display. Not actually scaled HiDPI modes in MacOS which is what I’m after.

The options available depend on the display.

I don't have a 4K display, so naturally I do not see any HiDPI choices.

Did you try it?

FWIW, this "Option key trick" is not new, and it goes back way before there were 4K displays.
