I just tried the yahoo weather maps and they work for me, so try upgrading to Safari 1.3.2. and make sure you have any Java updates from Software Update.

deede,
In Safari > Help
Select Installed Plug-ins, to show you what you have, though that doesn't tell what your missing, but at least it is a point of reference when you can establish which one the Yahoo site expects.

Hi deede
appl./x-mplayer2 is an mplayer mime, not that i have installed mplayer but i have downloaded various multimedia decoders and which one I've got that makes the Yahoo site works, i don't know.
Here's my plug-in listing
Java 1.3.1 Plug-in
Shockwave Flash 9.0 r16
RealMedia Player
Java 1.4.2_09 Plug-in (Cocoa)
Macromedia Shockwave for Director Netscape plug-in, version 8.5.1
Quicktime plug-in 7.13
(there are 21 Mime file here)
Java 1.3.1 Plug-in (CFM)
In addition to Quicktime I also have Real Player, VLC and Google Video player though i don't use those last three but were all downloaded at some point to enable me to play something at the time.
As Real Player figures in the above listing, maybe that contains the 'missing ability' you require.
Does the Yahoo weather site show if you use Internet explorer?
I am running out of ideas.
