Apple Diagnostics/Recovery error

Hello,

I have a MacBook Pro (13", 2012) and I am having an issue with Apple Diagnostics. I've often used this function and it's always worked properly. But now I'm on a new network and for some reason it gives me the error 2002 when I try to connect to Internet Recovery.

I basically do what I've always done:

- Start/Restart the system;

- Press the D key and hold it until the globe appears saying "Starting Internet Recovery, etc."

- Choose my network, write the password, click enter.

Then it used to take around 5 minutes for a blue screen to appear and I was able to start the Test. But now, as I said, I'm on a new network, and after 10 minutes of globe spinning I get an error message "apple.com/support" and the number 2002.

I've already tried to connect through Ethernet, it's the same. I've also tried to turn off/on the modem.

How can I solve this? Is there any other way to perform the Diagnostics Test without using the WiFi (which is working perfectly fine, other than on this particular case)?

Thanks

Hello Alicesi,

Thanks for using Apple discussions. Please try this as it was deemed helpful from another member of Apple discussions a while back.

Too all the people out there getting this "2002F" error, i have a solution for people in Australia.

I recently replaced my mbp 2012 hdd with a new ssd and was getting this error for over a week.

i changed the DNS setting on my router from 0.0.0.0 to googles public DNS 8.8.8.8

woohoo ! internet recovery worked instantly for me”

Let me know if this helped.

In Internet Recovery, these low negative thousands error messages indicate that your provided Wi-Fi Network is inadequate in some fashion, and cannot be used (for this purpose) in its current state.

Common problems include:

Hidden Network-name

required use of a proxy server to get Internet access

required use of a login page to get Internet access

Use of a login server or certificate to get Internet access

Use of PPPoE in the Mac to get Internet access (typically only applies to DSL)

Use of Fixed IP address rather than good old DHCP

Variance of the time by more than five minutes

Failure of Router to provide workable DNS server addresses, or providing 0.0.0.0 [may produce -2002f]

If you have an Ethernet port, you may in some cases be able to move your Mac close to the Router and connect to the Router using Ethernet.

The higher the number, the more obscure the problem.

Also, make certain the Date&Time and Time Zone are correct within 5 minutes.

That is just a generic fail code.
