GeForce GTX GPUs and macOS Mojave

Discussed here, Apple mentions that 2010 and 2012 Mac Pros are capable of running macOS Mojave if they have a Metal-Capable GPU installed. I have an MSI GeForce GTX 960 4GB, running with the Nvidia web driver, and it does say it is metal capable in system profiler. Will I be able to install Mojave?

Also: If I attempt to boot into Mojave with the original Radeon 5770, will I get any picture at all or just a black screen?

for your first question:

You WILL be able to upgrade to MacOS Mojave. Just be aware that once you do you will be in for a world of hurt when the OS falls back to the default MacOS graphics drivers because there are no Nvidia web drivers for GeForce GPU's that are Mojave compatible, even though the card is metal compatible. Apple and Nvidia can't seem to agree on drivers for the time being so this will most likely take a long time to happen if it ever does.

for your second question:

Yes, using the old card should always work, and if for any reason it doesn't, resetting the NVRAM(Command-Option-P-R) will make it so.

Hopefully you didn't attempt this like I did. That setup will allow you to install Mojave, but it will not work correctly due to Nvidia not having working drivers yet.
