pages 4.3 and Mojave …

Mojave will be 64 bits (whatever that means).

Pages 4.3 is 32 bits, as I understand.

is there a possibility that pages 4.3 will work under Mojave?

If not, is it possible to install Mojave on a partition?

I reiterate. I have my install disc. Is it worth trying in reinstall it? If Mojave does not support 32 bit apps, it doesn't. It seems clear. And even if it did, for how long? I think it's over (unless one simply stays on an old OS).

It states that it still does. Also that this is the last version.

True, it is buying time. I do not mind.

Viking, Guess users are up the proverbial creek.

Just reinstalled iWork '09 from original installation disk and also the update - same results - Pages opens but no love on documents either new or previously created.

Since Numbers '09 still works, I am going to hold on for a few days to see if a fix is forthcoming. Maybe it was just an oversight...

Thanks for the tip, I did keep my fingers crossed.

Yep, Pages '09 will not create any new documents or open previous work. **** I wish I had a heads-up!

Numbers '09 seems to work flawlessly on new and old docs.

Sure wish Apple would add mail-merge back to the current Pages... it's gonna pain me to switch to Word.

good to hear about Numbers!! that makes a difference.
I am very used to the interface and small details off pages 4.3 and will probably never get used to the newer version. Styles and mail merge is what I will miss the most.

really a bummer. Pages '09 really nailed it in terms of functionality + ease-of-use. The newer stuff just doesn't have enough baseline features for me to use vs. Word.

(Meanwhile, Word in office 365 drives me NUTS in that outline mode doesn't 'remember' the collapse state of everything when you save/reopen a document... arrgh)

thanks for the correction, I was already on it.

Maybe, … if we all write a message, it might help?

this is what I wrote:

"I am writing this in relation to the reported functionality (or lack thereof) of Pages 4.3 of the iWork '09).

Mojave is said to be the last version to support 32-bit applications.

Although this might be so, pages seems to fail this tasking, as reported in the discussion

Also it is reported that Numbers from the same suit does work fine.

Conclusion in this is that maybe this is something that was overlooked in the first version of Mojave? and maybe there can be a work-around??

Hope to hear from you. You answer will help me decide as to install Mojave now or delay it.

I am still hoping that som of the features from iWork '09, missing in the current version will re-appear, such als Mailmerge, styles and categories …"

Apple is not going to do anything with feedback advising that Pages '09 does not work. As far as Apple is concerned, it was killed off in Fall 2013.

Even if feedback were sent to the macOS product team, they would also ignore it because it is a long, retired application suite. If this Pages '09 behavior were occurring with another currently supported application, then it might get their attention.

I've accepted our fate. I'm now working (without enthusiasm) with Pages 7.2. Again, I have great reservations about how Apple is going about these things.

I think it comes down to the fact that that iDevices are their cash cow and everything else (like computers?) are extraneous.

Tim's gilded mansion becomes less and less accomodating. For me, at least.

I had the same spinning wheel of death. I deleted the Pages preferences in the user folder and voilà, it works again. Let's see for how long but it certainly looks promising as I prefer the 4.3 Pages over the new version for its layout capabilities...

Update:

And funny enough after one successful opening of a big document and closing it it refuses to open again...

So it would appear. RIP.

And I come ever closer to feeling compelled to leave "the walled garden". I'm in my 60's, and I am only too well aware that I am not their desired demographic. They court the young, enthralled with iToys. I get it. I accept it. That's the way it is. I really do think that Apple wants (and intends to) get out of the computer business altogether, rather sooner than later. People get irritated when you invoke the "well, when Steve was alive..." trope, but there is an element of truth to it. Things started to change rather quickly after he died, and so they continue to do. I came to the Mac late (2010), but it is apparent that things have changed a great deal in that time. If Apple updates the iMac this year, I'll probably buy one. But if not I think I will look elsewhere. And don't even get me started on the ******* phone. I was hoping that there would be a new itineration of the SE because I don't want a phablet. But that's not going to happen. As far as Apple is concerned, I'm a dinosaur on the way to extiction, and I don't matter. I get it. Believe me, I get it.

Sep 26, 2018 1:54 PM in response to patrickindenver

10.13.6 still works fine and will keep doing so for years to come.

I do not need dark mode.

… if you are a dinosaur, … what am I then?, mu first Apple experience is 1990. the Mac I used at the office was a Mac II with Os 4 on it and the first versions of Word.

I don't mind change, as long as it is constructive.

Leaving Pages 4.3 is not really an option because its function is integrated in my workflow. So is Numbers.

I think what is happening is that, eventually, MacOS and iOs will fold into one system, with the emphasis on iOS because that's where the money is. It simply is. I fully foresee Apple getting out of the computer business entirely. The audience they are courting don't care about computers. iToys. And Apple, being Apple (particularly Tim's Apple) is all about the money to the near total-exclusion of everything else.

Apple has sold it's soul, if it ever had one.

If it were any other company it would be "who cares, business as usual". But Apple once did (and continues to) present itself as "different and human and visionary", none of which they are any longer. It's money, money, and money, to the exclusion of all else. I will probably, like the lazy sucker that I am, buy a new iMac if they are announced this month, simply because for me that is the easiest thing to do at this point. I don't want to go back. But I seriously doubt that my next phone (I am still using a 6S) will be an iPhone. I hope it isn't. When I was first drawn into the fold I quickly became the most absurdly enthusiastic convert imaginable, but a lot has happened in eight years...

pages 4.3 and Mojave …
