Bluetooth audio keeps dropping out after upgrade to iOS 12

After I upgraded my phone to iOS 12 I’ve been having problems with Bluetooth audio dropping out on my wireless headphones. I initially thought it was my headphones that were bust so I bought a new pair only to find the same issue keeps happening. Weirdly though, it only happens when moving. I thought it might be interference (as I’ve heard that Bluetooth can be easily interfered with!) but I’ve had the phone right next to the earphones and it still cuts out so obstacles don’t appear to be the problem.

Is this a common fault with iOS 12? Is there any workaround?

My phone is an iPhone 8 (256GB) running iOS 12.0. The headphones tested were Sony WI-C400, Enacfire E19, Sony MDR-ZX770BN

Cheers!

Hello Goudeskitchen,

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it seems you are having issues with your iPhone and multiple Bluetooth headphones. If you haven't already, please restart your iPhone and follow the steps in these Apple resources on Bluetooth issues.

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Potential sources of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth interference
If you can't connect a Bluetooth accessory to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Next, use iTunes on your Mac or PC to backup and restore your iOS software to factory settings, as this process erases the information and settings on your device and installs a fresh copy of the latest iOS software. Temporarily set up your phone as new to test your issues, and then restore your back up and test the issues again.

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Restore your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to factory settings
Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup

Cheers!

Same here. iPhone 6s Plus, just purchased it 2 days ago, after update to iOS12 my Sony WI-C400 headphones that I've been using for almost a year with zero issues will not playback audio from my iPhone without stuttering constantly, and sometimes it results in the connection being dropped altogether. Sometimes forgetting and re-pairing will temporarily improve the issue, but I've done that several times in the last few days and it never lasts long.

So definitely seems like a specific issue with iOS 12 and whatever bluetooth chipset is being used in the Sony WI-C400 (and likely the others mentioned earlier).
