Jabber/XMPP support gone in Messages, need alternatives

In Mojave, Apple removed support for Jabber/XMPP accounts from Messages (aka iMessage). I was hoping someone had a good suggestion for a desktop app alternative.

Some of the Web interfaces are terrific, but they don't allow searching of messaging or archiving sessions locally. Adium is functional adequate, but I cannot find any settings that make it look like anything other than a Windows app from 1995, and there are several UI glitches under Mojave (e.g., bright corners in dark mode).

Therefore, I was hoping to open the floor to suggestions on an alternative.

Thanks, @andym100. So far, I found Swift no more modern or usable as Adium - indeed the UI/UX is basically like Adium with a "Swift theme." Same floating contact list, lack of spell checking, tabbed interface, etc.

I suppose with Messages working so well, no one has really put any time into an XMPP client for the Mac, But I found Monal, which looks nice, as well as a couple more advanced Web interfaces.
