"Buddies" is missing in Apple Messages app and closed on my desktop

My list of buddies for the Apple Messages app is gone. Used to be able to go to "Window", and then "Buddies" to display it, but it is gone in Mojave. "Messages" is still under "Window", but "Buddies" is not. Finding articles where it was removed in High Sierra, but that wasn’t the case when I was on H.S. Now it is the case for me with Mojave. Without “Buddies” one cannot login to Jabber (for work). If anyone knows a workaround I’m all ears.

Just wanted to update regarding my quest for a multipurpose client. Check out https://trillian.im - took me about 5 minutes to set it up for Google and our in-house XMMP / Jabber account. Free for personal use. Also available on the Mac App Store:Trillian on the Mac App Store

The Buddies List is gone because the services that relied on those lists like Jabber and AIM are no longer supported in Messages as of Mojave.

We use Jabber services in our office and searching for a client app is proving difficult - seems most developers are not going into the Jabber biz. One I used to use, Adium, seems to have been abandoned. It would be great to continue to have texts, Hangouts, and Messages all in one app, but not happening.

Everything has its life-cycle in tech and it looks like multipurpose messaging clients have seen the end of theirs.
