Cannot upgrade to Mojave due to incompatible software

macbook pro introduced in Mid 2015, with macOS High Sierra (version 10.13.6)

After I downloaded "Install macOS Mojave" from App Store, tried to upgrade macOS.

It warns like this: "Due to a compatibility issue with software running on your mac, upgrading is not possible at this time."

Refers to the screen capture:

User uploaded file

But I don't know which software cause this without any hint.

Anybody hit the same issue and know how to inspect which software is incompatible ?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS High Sierra (10.13.6), null

Hello bearzyj,

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities for help with upgrading your Mac to Mojave. I recommend attempting to upgrade while in safe mode.

Use this article to boot into safe mode: Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac - Apple Support

Safe mode (sometimes called safe boot) is a way to start up your Mac so that it performs certain checks and prevents some software from automatically loading or opening. Starting your Mac in safe mode does the following:

  • Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed
  • Loads only required kernel extensions
  • Prevents startup items and login items from opening automatically
  • Disables user-installed fonts
  • Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

You may need to re-enable your wireless connection, but then you can open the App Store attempt upgrading again. If you are allowed to upgrade then, the cause might then be moved to a folder for incompatible software. This article talks about this: About incompatible software on your Mac - Apple Support

Thanks and have a wonderful day.

Thanks MoonJ,

Yeah, just tried safe mode and found it works and want to update this post, then found you have answered the same way : )

To other guys if you also read these text that before a forced-upgrade in safe mode, remember to backup all the key data in MacBook in case any unexpected trouble happens.
