How to turn off Face ID?

I've worn sunglasses and was still able to use my face id to unlock the phone, the only time it wouldn't if I didn't have my face directly in front of the phone.

You could try this:

On your iPhone X, head to the standard Settings menu. From there, tap on the option that says Face ID & Password to be taken to the Face ID settings panel. You will likely be asked to enter your passcode for authorization. On the following screen, you will find an option that says iPhone Unlock. Turn the toggle for the option to the off position and the Face ID feature will be permanently disabled on your iPhone X.

That’s frustrating! I went into my phone turned off all Face ID to use with just the password. Locked my phone and it didn’t require my Face ID. (Note: you still have to swipe up for the keypad to appear) I also powered off my phone to see if it would reenable Face ID. It didn’t. If it’s Re-enabling Face ID without your consent I’d say you have an entirely different problem . Best of luck!

You turn if off the same place you enabled it... not too hard. There is no permanently deactivated it you just don't use it.

IF you turn your phone off and then back on again, you can't use face id, you need to enter the 4 to 6 digit passcode.

I just look at my settings and my is enabled, first time looking in here since I set up face id lol

I personally prefer require attention. My phone won't open unless my eyes are open and I'm looking directly at the screen. Face ID has been flawless for me since I got iPhone X and now with XS Max, it's faster.

Yup you’re right there. Haha the significant other can scan your face while your taking a nap! 😂. I have only had my XS Max for a day so I haven’t been able to try it. I just know on my X, the attention had to be off for me. Especially since I wear The brightly colored mirrored so cal style glasses 😂 sunglasses

Actually, my significant other IS the alternative face in my phone and I am in his. I have absolutely nothing to hide in our 38 years together. He's welcome to look in my phone anytime he wants. I'm welcome to look in his phone as well.

Yea I hear you, for me it was hit or miss. Since I turned off the require attention it works 100% 😁

Haha that’s how it should be. It was just a joke. Not to be taken seriously. 😂

Also forgot to mention. With iOS12 you can add a alternate appearance! 😁 Under the same Sertings > Face ID & Passcode > you can add an alternate appearance. Maybe set up one with your glasses on and the glasses off. I’d still recommend turning off the require attention for Face ID
