CarPlay Navigation and Turn / Camera issue

I'd posted about this before, but the thread is locked without a resolution, so I'm posting again in hopes we can find a solution.


Using my iPhone in my Honda Pilot for CarPlay, each time I activate the Lane Watch camera (such as making a right turn or merging to the right), CarPlay defaults back to Music and not Maps after turning the camera back off.

Is there anyone from Apple that can help? Honda has told me to contact my local dealer, my local dealer told me to contact Honda corporate, and no one seems to be able to actually offer a solution.

Hi All,


I have figured out correct sequence for guaranteed correct behavior for Honda Pilot 2017 Carplay issue where turn signal constantly brings back music even when actively using maps.


It boils down to how do you start Carplay. Apparently there are 2 ways to it.

1) Formal one - you connect iPhone while on Home screen. THen wait till green Carplay icon pops up in place of 'Smartphone connection' and then click on green Carplay icon to start it. Then you click on maps.


2) Automatic one (incorrect one) - you connect iphone while already under disconnected carplay screen on Pilot dash. Then when white carplay icon pops on iPhone, pressing home button on your phone. This too starts carplay.


Now 1) is right way and 2) is not. I have tested both options on my 2017 pilot EX and consistently I could reproduce issue when using 2) and didn't get any issue when using 1).
