AirPods pairing animation not showing up

I have an iPhone 6 (have had it for about 3 years) and I got my airpods at the end of June this year (2018). I am not sure why but no matter what I try, the animation doesn't show up. My airpods do connect, every time, but I never see the animation. What do I do? Both my phone and airpods are updated on the latest firmware.

Hmm, I'm not aware of any animation.

If you want to verify that they are connected do this:

1) Open the Control Center

2) 3D press on the music controls

3) Select the output option (little up-arrow with circles)

4) See AirPods
