iMessage Gif Search Not Working on iPhone

I can’t SEARCH gifs (#images) in messages when using data. I can search when using WIFI, but mote my data. I have #images turned on – i.e. going into the three-dot menu at the bottom of the messages screen. And before you tell me to go to Settings -> Cellular -> HashtagImages -> “ON”, I don't have those options on my phone.

My phone option is “mobile”, and when I choose that, there is no app called “hashtagimages” in my mobile data in settings. And yet I can access the images when using WIFI – it just doesn’t make sense.

Can you please tell me how I can SEARCH (not access, I can access the app, I just can’t 'search') for images in messages when using data? :-)

Hello :). Thanks for reaching out. I did have HashtagImages under Cellular Data enabled but that didn’t work for me. Strange, because your fix definitely worked for many users.

The only thing that worked for me is the “Reset All Settings” option. It was kind of a PIA to restore my iCloud settings and Wallet after the reset but I’m just glad #images in iMessage is working again.

There is no rhyme or reason as to why different fixes work for different users. Have a great weekend!

I had the same problem and finally figured it out!!

You have to turn off the setting for PREFER WIFI CALLING.

Go to:

Settings >

Phone > WiFi Calling > Prefer WiFi Calling

It worked for me. Hope that works for you! 🙂

Hello! I had the same issue too right after I updated my IOS to 12.0.1. I’ve had to deal with this for nearly a month. So frustrating! But here’s a fix that worked for me:

*** First, back up your iPhone. ***

Then, follow these steps:

Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings

(

This process should take less than 10 minutes)

Then test #images in iMessage. (It started working for me after the reset.)

After I got it working again, I proceeded with restoring all my iCloud, Find my iPhone, Wi-Fi, and Wallet settings.

Yeah my issue happened again when I updated my phone to IOS 12.0.1 too. I noticed there was HastagImages in Cellular Settings (that was not there before) so I turned that on and it seemed to work.
