Apple TV Atmos problems

I was considering buying this receiver, but found quite a few reports of this issue on various internet forums.

According to this thread Pioneer are blaming Apple, but are aware of the issue and working on a fix.

But for now the fix seems to be return the receiver and buy a Denon or Marantz. If Pioneer don't find a fix in the next week or 2 I'll buy one of those brands.

Can you get Atmos audio successfully from any other sources than Apple TV (e.g. smart TV, Blu-ray, (micro-)console) ?

Did you complete the Atmos setup for your listening room?

Does the receiver need activation for Atmos, at all or per HDMI port?

Do you connect the Apple TV directly to the receiver? Passthrough via the TV (ARC) is usually not supported for Dolby Atmos, but can be fine for many other audio streams.

Do you have the ATV 4k connected to N950?

You probably have a menu item on N950 which needs to be set up to use “enhanced” HDMI for that connection. Check your manual.

What model TV do you have?

I had the same issue when Dolby Atmos content was playing on my AppleTV 4K there was no sound, i found that restarting the AppleTV from the settings menu temporarily fixed the issue until it goes to sleep. It is not a ideal workaround, however, it works for now and allows me to watch with Atmos enabled instead of just disabling it. Fingers crossed Apple will work out the bugs in the OS soon!

It is not your amp it is apple 4k tv I have same issue with yamaha rx3040 plays all other dolby atmos apart from apple 4k tv.

In order to get Dolby Atmos on ATV 4K, I have to connect the ATV 4K to my DV/Atmos soundbar, then the DV is passed through the HDMI (arc) connection between TV/SB. The SB plays Atmos audio.

With ATV 4K, if I connected to TV first...I never had “Auto, Atmos” option in ATV 4K audio settings.

I have an Yamaha RX-A3040 and it will not play Atmos from Apple TV. No sound at all when the movie begins. No support for LPCM multichannel seems to be the issue from what I am reading. I’m looking to upgrade to a newer Yamaha but concerned they could have the same issues.

I have a Samsung N850 soundbar and have exactly the same problem. Atmos is detected but when playing Atmos titles I get complete silence. Normal audio codecs have no issues.

This occurs in almost all apps and content, eg Amazon Prime and Netflix. I have a XBOX one also installed to the sound bar at it plays Atmos content with absolutely no issue . It’s or probably an Asple tv 4K software issue. Hope Apple solves this soon as I got the 4K because of Atmos support.

I use yamaha rx3040. and I'm having the same problem. apple tv certainly does not play dolby atmos. From the windows 10 store, I downloaded the dolby atmos application. yamaha rx3040 screen, dolbt atmos saw the text. . you can try. I thought yamaha was wrong. but the apple tv is not working.

I did Try with my receiver onkyo rz900 and denon x2400,Both not working atmos with apple tv4k.

seems to be an Soundbar issue, bought an HDMI Splitter to Route Sound to the bar and UHD directly to the TV and now it works.

As mentioned above it’s a Soundbar issue and works with a hdmi splitter.

I have a Marantz AV7702 Pre-amp I can not get any Atmos movies to play on the Apple TV 4K. All other UHDT/Atmos sources work perfectly. For a given movie the previews will play sound and the menus play sound BUT when the movie plays allI get is nothing no sound.

Update: Regarding my Pioneer receiver VSX-LX302 and Apple TV 4k

I was concerned that I was not getting high quality sound from non-Atmos movies because the pioneer displays PCM when showing those movies. But the sound is good and I think it is really LPCM which is high quality sound.

And Dolby Atmos is working well and the Pioneeer displays "Atmos" when Atmos movies are playing.

I also have an issue with Atmos not working on an ARCAM receiver - looks like Apple TV issue
