Safari is slow after Mojave update

Don't know. All I do know is that I tried everything else first. After all that I still had the problem so I looked for anything which was out-of-date. Only Java was not the current version. After updating, all was well! Whatever the root cause was, I'm monitoring the situation incase it all falls down around me.

Sorry to tell you, but Safari was slow befor Mojave. Die hard apple guy here. Just for the heck of it I decided to try the newest Firefox. Downloaded and installed Firefox, adjusted a few of the settings and ran with it for a while. Amazing the difference. Firefox blows the socks off Safari. No delay in loading web pages, no more annoying web site full page advertisments. Firefox is so noticeable faster than Safari that I began useing it as my main browser.

Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions. These are mostly user to user discussions.

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem or a suggestion for change. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem/suggested change solved sooner.

I don't see anything obvious. What does the DockerHelper application do? Try quitting it to see if that helps.

Also try when booted into another admin account to see if it does the same thing.

I've seen this as well. I finally broke down and came here to see if it was common or not...and it apparently is.

The worst offender is, ironically, icloud.com. The site is completely unusable in safari now. The framerate for that site's animations, rendering, reactivity, etc, seems to be hovering around 1 frame every 2-5 seconds or less... Naturally it works fine on Chrome.

Apple needs to just replace the safari's with the open source chrome one if they're not going to actually put effort into developing it. Safari is all-but bloatware now.

Me too especially in Facebook, Twitter, or any website with lots of graphics or pics and in You Tube as well, or when I try to download a GIF, JPG, any photo or emoji. Reminds me of WINDOWS XP which was crap that's why I switched to MAC. I noticed no issues with Chrome or Firefox but I got used Safari that I don't like to switch browsers since I have all my bookmarks saved and some of them wouldn't transfer over to either one so I stuck with Safari. I do notice that my memory gauge states I go from 28% which is always normal for my MacBook Retina Pro to 58-65% used when I open Safari. I cleaned out every cache possible, history, ran memory clean rebooted several times, and the memory goes back to 28%. As soon as I open Safari, up it goes like high blood pressure! 😝 Perhaps the developers should have a go and fix this Mojave issue or else a lot of Safari users will be jumping ship and finding other browsers.

Same here. Safari 12 on Mojave is virtually unusable for me, loads pages very slowly, regularly just stalls and generally has a detrimental effect on the whole system. A good example is YouTube which stutters and runs terribly. Moved across to Chrome and all is well so until this is addressed by Apple I'll be using that.

I actually spoke to someone at Apple the other day. They said they believe it is because Mojave is more frequently connecting to icloud--too much, so even typing in notes is delayed.

Hopefully a fix will be rolled out soon but it seems to be a very common issue. I have one of the top-of-the-line MBPs so I know it's not outdated hardware.

I called in to the Stormfront shop in Carlisle yesterday and asked the question regarding macs and MacBooks being slow after the recent OS update and was told that the file system is optimised for solid-state hard drives and a clean install of the OS could solve things. I was also told that my 2012 MacBook pro would be good for another 3-5 years if upgraded with a solid-state hard drive. I'll have to see how many pennies I have to spare after Christmas!

I have the same problem too on both my iMac(27 inch,late 2013) and MacBook Pro(13 inch,2018,touchbar). I've tried all suggested solutions on both of my devices.. nothing. Since I've updated to Mojave, Safari is extremely slow.I even upgrated my iMac's RAM(+16GB).Everything is slow and not responsive like it should be .Even when I write something on some websites like messenger for example I see the letters some seconds after I press the keys. I tried other internet browsers both Firefox and chrome and both are working fine, so I'm 100% that is safari's problem on this version of Mac OS

Same exact problem. A few months ago, safari suddenly became so slow it was nearly unusable. I completely restored my macbook, and started from a clean slate. SAME PROBLEM. I've since switched to chrome and it works perfectly, no speed or responsiveness issues whatsoever, and I suggest you all do the same until (or if) this problem is fixed.

Same is happening here, quite annoying. I've removed the adblock and I'll see if this still occurs.

I'm running 1Blocker from the App Store right now. Performance is fine, not slowing down whatsoever - however a bit aggresive but the 'Reload without content blockers' option in Safari is not far away when needed.
