No headphone icon on X Max. Was it dropped?

I have yet to see the headphone icon on my new iPhone X Max. Has it been dropped? Is there a configuration? I have connected to three different Bluetooth headphones, earbuds and speakers. No icon.

iPhone XS Max, iOS 12

The icon as you call it, was the Bluetooth Symbol, and yes, in iOS 12 it has been removed. That doesn't mean you're not connected to a Bluetooth device, it just means when you are, you will not see the Bluetooth symbol on your home screen. The reality is it really didn't do anything other than show Bluetooth was turned on (it never did tell you a connection to a device was active).

It also showed remaining battery level for the headset. As others have already lamented: it ensured that hitting Play sends the audio to the right source, while also letting you know how much play time you have left on the headset.

The weird thing is that the icon is gone only for some headsets. If I connect my Sensation headphones there’s no icon, but if I connect the Jabra headphones the icon and the battery level both appear!!

Oops. I conflated the BT symbol and the headphone symbol. Regarding the BT symbol, that I used to check when battery was getting low and I wanted to ensure I had it off, or if I wanted to pair, that it was on. Not a big deal that I now have to swipe first.

However, the headphone symbol indicated that I was paired, I believe is completely gone, and that is too bad.

A number of times I’d lose audio only to realize that the phone had paired with my car, idling in the driveway.
