Slow to save screenshots

Good evening,

I recently updated my macbook to Mojave and I noticed it's really slow to save the screenshots in the desktop. I usually use Cmd+shift+4 to select the area to capture and the images take like 5 or 6 seconds to appear on the desktop.

I tried to disable the "Show Floating Thumbnail" by pressing Cmd+shift+5 and opening the options menu, but it still takes like 6 seconds to save the images. Any help to solve this problem would be really appreciated.

Thanks,

Gab

I was having the same issue. Deleting these two .plist files fixed it for me

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.screencapture.plist

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.screencaptureui.plist

I don't know if you need to delete both but that's what I did.

I'm getting the same situation as you Gab9119. I take screenshots extremely frequently for the design work that I do, and I notice that on my new Macbook Pro (can't tell if it's a new MBP issue or a Mojave issue) screenshots take about 5-7 seconds to produce and show up as a file. This is in contrast to the 1-2 seconds. Haven't tested on an old machine.

Frequently taking screenshots and having to wait is the same feeling as downgrading a computer and having to wait for things to process. Just odd that this is my experience with my brand new 15" macbook pro.

I wonder if it has anything to do with how screenshots now need to be processed through a separate more powerful app which slows down what was once much more direct and simple. Or perhaps it has something to do with how Apple handles how files are created in the new file system for Mojave?

This is all unclear. But incredibly frustrating.

Same for me. I've also disabled the "Show Floating Thumbnail" option but it takes almost 45 seconds to appear on the desktop. I can also not see it when I "refresh" the files on the desktop by accessing them via Finder while switching desktop and any other folder.

That is sooo anoying! I have a brand new $3000 MBP 2018 with SSD and have to fight with this bulls***.

Maybe we should give a reward to the first person who finds a fix for this 😉

Since updating to Mojave a month or so ago, I'm experiencing the same issue. I have the floating thumbnail disabled and it still takes 6-8 seconds for the screen shot (Cmd+shift+4 like Gab) to show up. I take dozens every day with the work that I do, and this delay is VERY annoying. I agree with the sentiment above from thinkamc that it feels like a downgrade.

Hopefully there is a fix for this soon.

Don't feel alone. It seems to me a little buggy.

Like wise I am not a fan of the floating screenshot—just slows me down and easy enough to edit the old way (with out the glitches.) So I have it disabled as well.

Try opening the command shift 5 and change the timer to none— and test. Then change it back and test your results with your preferred method of cmd shift 4 and cmd shift 3.

This seemed to eliminate the 5-6 delay I was seeing as well.

Point being, up until this latest OS, screen shots showed up almost instantly. The fact that there is a long (relatively speaking) delay now, could imply there is an issue with the OS.

I'm not sure why you're singling out my comment when I'm sharing similar sentiment as most of the other people who posted before me with the same issue. But anyway...
