Hello Jim,

Yes to following the instructions. Here is what I did. I backed up anything that needed to be backed up and un-peared my Tardisk and then re-formated it to HFS+ and named it TarDisk. (Then run FSCK if you feel the need). I then installed Mojave and got it up and running. (You do not have to do this first if you don't want to) Once it was up and running, I backed it up to a portable drive as my time machine backup. I then followed the steps on the Pear_TarDisk_Mojave.pdf.

Note: While you do copy the Sierra installer to a USB stick, you do not actually install Sierra. It is merely to change the structure of the file system back to HFS+ when Mojave has changed it to APFS. Once that is done, you go then restore your time machine backup of Mojave and everything works great. About the PDF...let me know how and I will send it to you.

Hi Tpeazy and Wigdaddy,

I hope you don't mind me chipping in for a couple of clarifications here. Can I assume that the way to do this is to follow Luiz's step by step instructions as posted on this discussion earlier?

If so, then can you please can you explain a couple of points in these instructions that I am confused about:

I can't see the point of reinstalling High Sierra and then doing the Time Machine reinstall - won't it pretty result in be the same thing, except with all the added files and personalisations etc from the Time Machine backup? Every time I do a Time Machine (which is all too frequent these days due to the this TD confusion) I re-install it all - docs and OS.

"Use the guide you gave me to reformat" etc.. - is this guide (from Luiz presumably) available anywhere please?

I was unable to track down the "Pear_TarDIsk_Mojave pdf" file online

You suggest downloading the Sierra Installer - this is definitely the Sierra and not High Sierra installer that you are talking about here?

The thing is I am very happy to wipe everything off my computer and start again as I have backed up all my documents, downloads, music, desktop etc. My computer is really slow these days anyway so I'm keen to make a fresh start. Maybe there is an easier way for me to do this whole process?

My computer uses the "Journaled HFS+" system (whatever that means) - I just checked.

Sorry to ask all this but I am pretty much a novice. Like many others I had the impression that the Tardisk was designed for people like myself but I'm not so sure anymore..

Many thanks,

Jim

Hi Tpeazy,

Many thanks for taking the trouble to write this out for me. I did locate the PDF as images a couple of pages back (thanks for pointing that out Wigdaddy) so have downloaded them now thanks.

I think I can probably handle doing this with your instructions, as long as I have nothing else on that day!

Hopefully others will be able to follow your instructions too.

Thanks again guys,

Jim

Your assessment of the consensus is correct. It sounds like you have a slightly different issue, but almost certainly deriving from the same filesystem concerns. I'm very surprised that you were able to upgrade to Mojave to begin with.

Good luck following his instructions on unpearing when your computer's completely nonfunctional to begin with. Luiz seems to have a habit of issuing canned responses that don't really work because he's not paying attention to the details. His triage must be through the roof at the moment...

Let us know how it goes.

I have a new problem; hoping someone can help.

A few weeks ago (before finding this board), I attempted to install Mojave on my MacBook Air running High Sierra 10.13.6

The install, of course, failed - and I restored from backup. Now I cannot install High Sierra updates either. They download, and I get a screen saying the software cannot be installed on this computer. So now I'm missing out on security updates, in addition to Mojave.

Any suggestions?

I was finally able to reach a support tech named Luiz. He walked me through the process, but in the final steps, while using remote desktop, he mistakenly erased an external hard drive which held my doctoral research as even more important valuable info. After realizing the mistake, he ceased communication. I've been trying to get in touch with someone from the company since. It's such a shocking experience, I can barely think. Any suggestions are appreciated. User uploaded file
