Hello Jim,

Yes to following the instructions. Here is what I did. I backed up anything that needed to be backed up and un-peared my Tardisk and then re-formated it to HFS+ and named it TarDisk. (Then run FSCK if you feel the need). I then installed Mojave and got it up and running. (You do not have to do this first if you don't want to) Once it was up and running, I backed it up to a portable drive as my time machine backup. I then followed the steps on the Pear_TarDisk_Mojave.pdf.

Note: While you do copy the Sierra installer to a USB stick, you do not actually install Sierra. It is merely to change the structure of the file system back to HFS+ when Mojave has changed it to APFS. Once that is done, you go then restore your time machine backup of Mojave and everything works great. About the PDF...let me know how and I will send it to you.

I have finally worked my way through this--but without any help or support from Tardisk. Here's what happened and what I did to fix this:

1) Mac is a mid-2012 Macbook Air with 256gb drive and 128gb Tardisk that was running High Sierra.

2) Ran the updater to install Mojave--apparent disaster

3) It looked like it would work, but then would exit with an error code (like others have seen) that said restart.

4) stuck in a restart-error loop.

***4a) Somewhere about here in the process I decided to create a bootable installer for Mojave on a USB memory stick. I don't remember the site that I used, but there are many that describe how to do this. You will need this later.

5) I thought I was completely screwed, but Apple Support helped me run diskutil in a terminal window that I could get to from command-R restart. I created a disk image of my computer on a USB drive.

6) I tried to follow instructions on creating a DIY fusion drive, but got nowhere--only errors and no joy.

7) This site was most helpful on getting the correct diskutil command and correct disk names for the command to create a fusion drive: https://www.macworld.com/article/2014011/how-to-make-your-own-fusion-drive.html

8) However, this still did not work.

9) I realized that I had to delete the APFS formatting from the disks and get the drive back to HFS+. I found the command to do that here: https://blog.macsales.com/46896-how-to-revert-a-drive-from-apfs-back-to-hfs

10) At this point I used the instructions in my step 7 link to create a fusion drive of my internal drive and my Tardisk.

11) The next step was to install Mojave onto this fusion drive--

12) Stuck my bootable mojave installer usb stick into my Mac and restarted with Option key held down. held my breath.

13) The installer took some time but worked just fine.

14) Finally, I mounted the disk image I had created and moved the files I wanted (mostly document files) from the image to my mac fusion drive.

15) All is now working well

Summary of steps:

1) Create disk image or time machine backup of your machine

2) Create bootable Mojave installer

3) Remove Tardisk

4) Change APFS to HFS+ on main drive

5) Reinstall Tardisk and erase it.

6) Boot from your bootable Mojave installer

7) Follow commands to create Fusion drive of HD and Tardisk

8) Boot from bootable Mojave installer to install Mojave

9) Move stuff from your DMG image file or from Time Machine backup.

10) Done!
