Favorites sidebar won't stay open in Safari

I cannot keep the Safari favorites column open since the last update. I can click on the square of dots and get my favorites list to open, but as soon as I go to another page it disappears. I have searched the Safari Preferences but cannot find how to rectify this issue.

It is annoying to repeatedly have to open that column of favorites. Would appreciate help.

1. Delete Caches.db

Close all windows and quit all applications.

Hold "option" key down and click "Go" menu in the Finder menu bar.

Select "Library" from the dropdown.

Library > Caches > com.apple.Safari > Caches.db

Right click the Caches.db file and select "Move To Trash”.

Close windows.

Restart and relaunch Safari.

2. Delete com.apple.Safari.plist file and test.

Empty the Trash.

Quit all applications.

Hold the option key down and click the "Go" menu in the Finder menu bar.

Select "Library" from the drop down.

Library > Preferences > com.apple.Safari.plist

Right click on it and select "Move it to Trash".

Restart and relaunch Safari holding the shift key down.

If this doesn’t help, “Put Back” the com.apple.Safari.plist

Right click on the Trash icon in the Dock and select “Open”.

Right click on the com.apple.Safari.plist and select “Put Back”.

Select ”Replace” from the dialog when it appears.

dominic23,

I got Safari back again and the favorites sidebar stays. I don't know exactly all I did and I am missing the top bar that holds my favorites, but everything else is great. Thanks! Sorry but I am not a techy person. I'm also trying to move everything from this computer to a new computer and spending untold hours trying to figure it out.

Thanks again. I really appreciate your help.
