iPhone 8+ update to iOS 12.0

So, I just updated my iphone software to iOS 12.0 and now I can't open word documents received in my email. This is not good. What to do?

This is odd. I sent myself a couple small word files, a few poems. One opened and the other didn't.

I talked with an Apple rep a day or so ago, and he didn't have an answer for gmail, but did show me that when I use the iphone email, I can open all my word files. And also if I access my gmail account online thru safari or chrome, I can open word from there on my phone too.

He did say that Apple would be following comments on the matter and try to resolve.

...oh, and it says "The operation couldn't be completed. (Office import error domain 912.) I tried opening a word document from an old email that I was able to open before, but now cannot open that either and get same error message.

It’s nit a Microsoft problem- it’s an apple problem. The new iOS won’t let you open excel or word documents that are attachments in emails. I have the problem. I forwarded such emails to friends and they can’t open them either. Major apple screwup.

Go to settings, scroll down to 'iTunes & App store'. On that screen make sure the 'Music, Apps and updates' are all on (green). I did see your comments but haven't tried yet. I am really angry when Apple releases these updates with so many major issues. My friends with Android phones say this seldom if ever happens.

For ios updates go to 'settings', then to 'general' and then to 'software update' and then turn off 'automatic updates.

For apps go to 'settings', then scroll down to 'iTunes & App Store', and then uncheck the 'automatic updates'.

Do you have Microsoft word or Pages installed on your device? If so then you may need to contact Microsoft as word is their product.

I don't have Pages or Word but just downloaded Word and still have the error message so I deleted the Word app.

Word is a third party program right? If a file is created in or by third party software, since when has it been anyone but the developers responsibility to update compatibility with a new OS?

Since the ios 12 update not only am I not able to pull up Word and Xcel email attachments but all my apps are no longer updating automatically. Settings are correct but have to do manually.
