Is Excel software required to be updated after upgrading Mac OS to macOSMojave? In my case certain functions of Excel can not be used?

I am using Microsoft Office 2016 for home and student.
I had to uninstall this MS Office 2016, download new version, reinstall and update the software with this it started working nor
It depends what version of Excel you are using.
