Mojave freezes on login screen

For me it actually turned out it wasn't Mac OS, but ProtonVPN app. I've not been using it for over a month now and haven't experienced the issue since. So it may be worth examining your apps if maybe they're misbehaving. It of course is possible that ProtonVPN app is somehow incompatible with some change introduced in Mojave, but if it's true then I've not experienced another conflict (with different app) so far.

Something similar worked for me.

I needed to to delete a couple of incompatable kexts that were brought over from a recent migration from my old Mac. I am not sure why they had been enabled after a number of successful logins, but they were.

I've got *the* solution: Sell your Mac.

Just kidding, of course, but I wonder why Apple doesn't fix this? Do they care? Can't they reproduce it?

If Windows 10 would freeze for 5 minutes at login time, there would be an uproar.

Have you tried safe boot?

If safe boot is okay, some of start up apps prevents your login.

In my case, 'Virus Buster Corporate Edition' prevented login.

After uninstalling that, this issue has gone.

I have the same issue since September 2018. It is now June 2019, and Apple hasn't addressed the issue yet. Quite disappointed. My mother's new MacBook Air has the same issue too. We are downgrading to High Sierra, and will probably stay on it.

Nothing seems to fix this issue and after contacting Apple about this very issue, course they are recommending waiting for the new update to come out next week. If this update does not fix it then i will be rolling back to High Sierra. I have several Teachers with this same issue as well and it is frustrating to know there is nothing Apple can do until the new update comes out. Good luck to you all!

I'm running Mojave 10.14.6 on my 2017 MacBook Pro and it happens EVERY DAY when waking the laptop from sleep. The keyboard doesn't let me type in my password.

I also have an open ticket with support but they couldn't figure it out.

This Problem still exists now Catalina OS as well.

Recently I upgraded from 10.14.5 to 10.14.6 and problem started. Tried many installation from recovery/ bootable USB. Tried OS 10.15 , 10.13. Still same problem.

diagnostic ran - nothing came .

First Aid , HDD format .

install from internet recovery

install from bootable disk

atill no help

So I got tired of this issue and I went to the Apple Store. They installed a clean software update from their store, but it didn’t resolve my issue. Then, they changed my Logic Board (Out of warranty repair so I had to pay). It did not resolve the issue either... I am waiting for a return from the engineers. I hope they will refund my repair if the issue is software related... I’ll keep you posted

Tried again formatting HDD, I stalling 10.13 which worked earlier fine. Still no luck, login screen get stuck. Can’t even login. Only boots and open fine in safe mode.

Without safe mode even I can’t initial setup ( language - account. Etc ..).

Not great... They just want me to upgrade to Catalina. However, since the issue came back after changing my Logic board, I want to make sure they resolve it as they promised. If I am not satisfied with my advisor’s answer, I might return to the Apple Store.

Same issue here. Mojave is not stable at all. Stuck with work computer that’s not working.

I have this question too. My MacBook pro it two weeks old and it is hanging up after the password in put in. The status bar fills up but then nothing happens. Very frustrating
