Hi, I'm having the same problem with a mid 2013 Macbook Air trying to go from 10.8.5 to Mojave.

When i try to update to Mojave with the App Store, it asks for my Apple ID, and after i put it in, it comes up with an error message that the Apple ID was previously not used in the Appstore (which is actually false because i can login through the web app no problem). When i click the Investigate button on this error message, I get another error message which says I need to update my OS to find out more about this error. Great circular logic there...

I've also tried installing direct to El Capitan as per the comment from Babowa, When i click on El Capitan in the App Store, I get an error message that Your purchase could not be completed.

I have more then enough memory for both OS's (4GB) and way more hard drive space then needed (over 55GB free).

Do you have any Ideas for how i can get the upgrade to work?

Cheers

Hello,

What is happening when you are trying to download and install? If you have a Late 2012 Mac mini and at least on Mountain Lion, you should be able to.

Do you have enough storage (Apple menu > About this Mac > Storage)? You will need at least 12.5GB but since you are running Mountain Lion, you will need at least 18.5GB available.

You will also want to make sure you're connected to a private Home Wi-Fi network or ethernet and signed into your Apple ID in the Mac App Store.

You can download and install from the Mac App Store > Featured > macOS Mojave.

You cannot upgrade directly; you will need to update to El Capitan first:

Make sure you have more than 4 GB of RAM; the new OS versions are very RAM hungry. And, you want plenty of empty hard drive space.

Lastly, make sure you have a full backup first before installing a newer OS. Some of your apps may no longer work.
