When I try to text my son, my daughter gets it and vice versa, but I cannot text both in a message

just the other day, my iPhone X started merging text messages from my son and daughter in the same thread. If i specifically choose one from contacts, it goes to the other. I have checked settings and they have checked messaging settings. I have cleared messages and restarted conversations but still have the same problem. I cannot seem to get the phone to recognize them as separate people again and cannot find any problems like this. User uploaded fileUser uploaded file

Thanks for the reply. I have located an article that supports my problem and the fact that separating their Apple ID does not unmerge the contacts once Apple has associated them as the same. I dislike updates and iOs12.

I hope Apple has a solution.
